Nokia closed a flagship store in New York

As Engadget reports, the company Nokia has finally closed its flagship store in New York. The decision was taken late last year. At that time, Nokia said that in early 2010, under the restructuring strategy of the company retail sales, will be closed the flagship stores in New York and Chicago. Nevertheless, both stores worked till now.

Most likely the fate of the Chicago store will be the same at the one from New York, but for the moment it continues to operate.

Previously, Nokia stated that the stores from New York and Chicago were designed to inform the consumers about the innovative benefits of Nokia products. The representatives of the Finnish corporation stressed that the consumers prefer to buy phones in online shops or from operators.

The phones will feature night vision

Scientists from the University of Florida managed to develop a multilayer film based on OLED, suitable for use as a key element of night vision devices. The principle of the invention is different from the existing technology of night vision devices, which require significant dimensions. The infrared signal is enhanced while the light passes through the layers of organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and converted into visible spectrum. The test sample of the studied material is only about 1 square centimeter yet, but the researchers promise that within a year and a half will be able to develop the technology to be used, for instance, in car windows for better visibility at night and, of course, mobile phones and other mobile devices.

Expert: Apple and Microsoft could unite against Google

Soon, Apple may join forces with Microsoft, to work together for a better completion agaisnt Google. Such an opinion was expressed at PC World by a trustworthy expert and journalist, David Corsi. One of the obvious sign of approaching between the two companies is the recent release of Bing application for the iPhone, he mentioned.According to David Corsi, the Microsoft search engine can not compete with Google at the moment, but with the support of Apple, the Redmond Corporation could intensify the competition with the major contender on the search services market. The expert did not exclude the possibility that Microsoft and Apple could accuse Google of violating some antitrust laws. Google is already competing with Apple on several fronts, and soon the confrontation could rise. Thus, the operating system Android compete with iPhone OS, but in January, Google, according to rumors, will release his own smartphone, which will become a direct competitor of the Apple phones. Besides, both companies have their own online shops for mobile applications, which can turn into a struggle for software developers. In addition, Google recently released a beta version of Chrome browser for Mac OS X. A week later he over passed Safari and took the third place in the market of web browsers. We also should not forget about the planed release in 2010 of Chrome OS, which in some areas could potentially compete with Mac OS.David Corsi pointed out that Apple and Microsoft are linked together through the principle "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." However, he does not deny that for the moment, this is only an assumption which lacks weighty facts.

The court ordered Apple to pay $ 21.7 million for patent infringement

The Court of Eastern District of Texas has pronounced its decision which ended the quarrel between OPTi and Apple. As AppleInsider reports, the court ordered the company from Cupertino to pay OPTi $ 21.7 million for infringement of the 6405291 patent.

Company OPTi filed a lawsuit against Apple back in 2007. She accused of violating the latest patented technology, which describes how to more effectively transfer data between the processor, memory and other devices. In April 2009, the jury had made its decision in favor of OPTi, now the Court of the Eastern District of Texas finally sorted out the dispute between the two companies.

Founded 20 years ago, in 1990 OPTi was one of the largest suppliers of chipsets for computers. However, under Intel’s pressure, the company was forced to sell its business. Nowadys, OPTi has only one employee.

Apple tablet may be "incredibly cheap"

The author of the popular Diggination video podcast, Alex Albrecht, in his conversation with the actor John Hodzhmenom (in the Apple commercials, he plays the role of PC) said that he knows something about the developing by Apple tablet. This reports AppleInsider. Under the pressure of his colleague, Kevin Rose, he admitted that the device will have "an incredibly low price".
The Diggination authors regularly discuss the rumors about Apple, and express their assumptions regarding the planned release dates of the new products. We can not say that the forecasts of Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose are always true, but sometimes they can very accurately describe the device not yet released.
Earlier, the Asian partners of Apple reported that the reason for delaying the tablet release was the desire of the Cupertino company to change the configuration of the already approved models. For example, one version of the tablet will have an OLED-display with a diagonal of 9.7". As the analysts say, the retail price of such tablet will be at least $ 2000.

DOCOMO, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Fujitsu Push Ahead with LTE Mobile-Terminal Platform

NTT DOCOMO, NEC Corporation, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Fujitsu Limited announced today that they are making progress with their joint development of "LTE-PF", a mobile-terminal platform based on Long Term Evolution (LTE), a coming mobile communication standard for super-fast downlinks above 100 Mbps and uplinks above 50 Mbps. The four companies have completed the development of an LTE-PF chipset engineering sample and are now evaluating its main functions. The sample will be exhibited at the NTT Group stand at ITU Telecom World 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland from October 5 to 9 and the DOCOMO stand at CEATEC JAPAN 2009 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan from October 6 to 10.LTE-PF is a core system comprising software for baseband processing and other basic functions in mobile communication devices (see chart). The platform's technology is expected to be licensed in mobile phone markets worldwide, where its adoption as a common platform will free manufacturers of mobile phones and chipsets from having to develop proprietary technologies for basic functions. As a result, manufacturers will get products to market faster and at lower costs, and will be able to concentrate more resources on the development of enhanced lineups of unique products. The LTE protocol on which LTE-PF is based is currently being standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Seamless hand-over is possible between LTE and the current third-generation (3G) standards W-CDMA and GSM, meaning that users would be unaware of switching networks even while using their phones.Source: NTT DOCOMO
