Hundreds of Ghana residents staged a demonstration to protest against the Vodafone expansion

Hundreds inhabitants of Ghana have recently came out on the area near the parliament of the country in Akkra. The reason of demonstration is unusual - citizens protest against the plan of selling the Ghana Telecom Company to the British operator Vodafone.

Vodafone has offered to pay $900 million for 70 % of shares in the company, however, as the opposition members consider, the telecommunication active of the company is underestimated.

Ghana, a state in the Western Africa, due to a plenty of minerals and a quite liberal economic trend, remains a developed enough state with a GDP per capita approximately at the level of Mongolia.

Simultaneously with the protests against Vodafone’s expansion, the Ghana Telecom employees have organized their own march - to support the sale plan.

Level of mobile communication penetration in Ghana - 33 %.
