Short text messages have become a popular means of communication with friends and relatives during holidays. Only in Sweden during New Year's Eve 2009-2010 one of the cellular networks provided 32 million SMS-messages, which means 9 messages per person. In the Chinese New Year on February 14, Ericsson projected 19 billion SMS-messages.
Another record of sent SMS-messages has been set during the broadcast of the contest American Idol - 2009 in the United States – a total of 178 million messages.
According to Gartner, the number of sent SMS-messages throughout the world for 2010 will be 2.3 trillion.
